Curly hair has a couple of new allies

June 30, 2015

So many of our clients have beautiful curly or wavy hair. Those curls can take some effort with styling. Many curly haired beauties have struggled with detangling, combating frizz and maintaining moisture. Aveda has been listening! We are so happy to introduce you to your new best friends!

Be Curly Co-Wash

What does it mean to “co-wash” your hair? Co-washing is short for “conditioner-only washing.” Instead of lathering up with your favorite shampoo, you would use a conditioner to “cleanse” the hair and scalp. Your hair won’t be squeaky clean. It will be  more like “2nd day hair,” which can be softer and easier to style and manage. Curly or textured hair tends to be drier than straight hair. Your natural scalp oils have a harder time being evenly distributed through your lovely locks, due to the natural twists and turns of your hair. With straight hair, the natural oils can just travel straight down the hair shaft, from root to tip.  Co-washing helps with hydrating your curly hair by cleansing without stripping all of the natural oils.

Loraine Massey, author of a book called  Curly Girl: The Handbook,  suggests that co-washing conditioners be used more often for curly hair, than regular shampoos.

Aveda’s Be Curly Co-Wash is one of the newer additions to the Be Curly family. Be Curly Co-wash allows you to condition and remove build-up from your curls, while cleansing your scalp. This is a sulfate-free formula that will moisturize hair for up to 3 days with certified organic  babassu oil. You can fight frizz and improve the look and feel of your curls, with every use! After rinsing the co-wash, you can follow up with Be Curly Conditioner or our NEW Be Curly Intensive Detangling Masque.

Be Curly Intensive Detangling Masque

Have you ever tried to comb through your freshly shampooed hair, only to become frustrated by tangles? New Be Curly Intensive Detangling Masque is the answer! This masque easily separates tangled curls and coils, moisturizes AND fights frizz! Be Curly Intensive Detangling Masque moisturizes with the power of certified organic babassu oil and shea butter.

Babassu Oil is extracted from the Brazilian babassu nut. Babassu oil is non-drying, very hydrating and has been shown to have restorative properties for dry skin, dandruff, irritated scalps and dry hair!

Shea butter is derived from the African Shea Tree. Shea butter is very moisturizing as it absorbs into the hair, instead of sitting on top of the hair strand. It has also been shown to benefit hair growth, seal the hair shaft, protect hair from UV rays, soften the hair and soothe scalp irritation.

Be Curly Intensive Detangling Masque combines these two powerhouse ingredients to help make detangling a breeze!

Recently in our salon, Keisha was able to put Be Curly Intensive Detangling Masque to the test.

“I have a client with insane amounts of hair! She’s only 9 years old but her hair is extremely thick, curly and very difficult to detangle. I used the Be Curly Intensive Detangling Masque on her hair and was completely blown away! Usually, after shampooing and conditioning, I have to spend at least a half hour detangling her hair, before I can begin blow drying. After using the Masque, my detangling time was cut in half! I was so impressed! I couldn’t believe how easy it was to comb through and section her hair! My client loved it too! She said, “I didn’t cry this time because it didn’t hurt!” I have already recommended this product to her mom and my other curly haired clients!”

With these two additions to the Be Curly family, we know you will love your curls, waves and coils even more! Come to Ambience for more information or to purchase your new weapons in the battle of the curls!
